1. Perfect High Priest = Perfect Worshipers

Perfect High Priest = Perfect Worshipers
For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever. Hebrews 7:28   Hebrews can be a difficult book to understand. And yet it is rewarding when we take the time to understand it. Think, for example, of the verse above . . . The author of Hebrews compares Jesus, the Son of God, with the high priests of the Levitical priesthood. If you know anything about the book of Hebrews, you

Lost in Wonder, Love, and Praise
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!"  And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the
  3. If You're Breathing . . .

    If You're Breathing . . .
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! Psalm 150:6 Last time I checked, I was still breathing. Yep.  Still breathing even now. And as long as I'm breathing I can do certain things . . . I can work. I can play. I can sleep. I can read. I can watch tv or movies. I can hang out with others. I can eat and drink. I can play guitar. I can listen to music. I can sing "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. I can type these words for this pastoral pondering.

Worshiping God When Things Go Badly
Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, and there came a messenger to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."  While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed
  5. An Unacceptable Offering

    An Unacceptable Offering
When you come to appear before me, who has required of you this trampling of my courts?  Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations- I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.  Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.  When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands
  6. Is Our Worship In Vain?

    Is Our Worship In Vain?
You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: "'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"   Matthew 15:7-9 The last couple of days we've discussed how God wants our worship to edify the church.  This is an important aspect of our worship, and an often neglected part of the deliberations about how we should worship.  Yet we should always remember that worship is primarily
