    Rebuke and Discipline Without Anger
O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath.  Psalm 6:1 Nobody I know wants to be rebuked in anger. Most of us don't want to be rebuked, period!   But with anger? No, thank you. Furthermore, I know of no child who wants to be disciplined by a furious parent. Discipline is hard enough to go through as it is.  When the parent administering the discipline is infuriated, it makes it that much harder to endure. In Psalm 6, David seems to know that rebuke and discipline

    Bearing Fruit in Season
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.  Psalm 1:1-3 How many of you know that January 6th is Apple Tree Day? I didn't know until yesterday. I have to admit, I thought it

    Learning From Elijah
And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"  He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away."  And the LORD said to him, "Go, return on your

    Love is Vulnerable
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.  1 John 4:7    I think it's safe to say that Christians know we are called to love one another.  The Bible is very clear on that. We also know that love is from God.   But what love entails is sometimes a bit fuzzy to us. 1 Corinthians 13 gives us some parameters . . .   Love is patient and kind.  It does not envy or boast.  It is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its

    Emotions
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, "I will; be clean."  Mark 1:41   And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.  Mark 3:1 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God." Mark 10:14    In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy

    Three Characteristics Important to Jesus
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?  Micah 6:8   If you could grow in any three characteristics, what would they be? Maybe you want to be rich. Or to wield power and control. Maybe you want fame and to have accolades all over the world. Or maybe you'd rather be really good at a specific set of skills. There are all kinds of characteristics we may want to see more of in our
