    Not Safe, But Good
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Psalm 2:10-12 In C.S. Lewis’ book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, visit the magical realm of Narnia.  During their time in Narnia, the children meet Mr. and Mrs. Beaver.  The Beavers tell

    Firstborn
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  Colossians 1:15   Yesterday, we looked at the first half of Colossians 1:15 that states Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Today, I'd like to talk about the second half of the verse . . . the part where Jesus is called "the firstborn of all creation." You should know that title has sparked a controversy or two. In the fourth century Arius and his followers argued passages like this one demonstrated the Son of God

    Seeing the Invisible God
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15   "He's the spitting image of his father." That is strange phrase to me.   The sense seems to be that the son is so similar to his dad, it's almost as if the father had spat him out of his mouth. Strange.  And a little gross, if you really think about it. As weird as that phrase is, it makes me think about Jesus. That's because Colossians 1:15 tells us Jesus is the image of the invisible God (I plan to

    Emotions
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, "I will; be clean."  Mark 1:41   And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.  Mark 3:1 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God." Mark 10:14    In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy
  5. Three Characteristics Important to Jesus

    Three Characteristics Important to Jesus
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?  Micah 6:8   If you could grow in any three characteristics, what would they be? Maybe you want to be rich. Or to wield power and control. Maybe you want fame and to have accolades all over the world. Or maybe you'd rather be really good at a specific set of skills. There are all kinds of characteristics we may want to see more of in our

The Sun of Righteousness With Healing in His Wings
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. Malachi 4:2   Hail! the heaven-born Prince of peace!  Hail! the Son of Righteousness!  Light and life to all he brings,  Risen with healing in his wings   Charles Wesley wrote those lyrics to one of our beloved Christmas hymns, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing. It's obvious he had Malachi 4:2 in mind when he wrote that particular stanza. And when we
