1. God, the Righteous Judge

    God, the Righteous Judge
God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.  Psalm 7:11   One Christmas when I was a child, I received, among other things, a Pogo Stick and a Bible. I remember looking through my Bible on the floor of my living room.  I was on the page where God destroyed the world with a flood in Noah's day.  At some point, I left the Bible open on the floor, and started jumping on my Pogo Stick.   I'm sure you can guess what happened. My Pogo stick landed on my Bible.   I looked
  2. God's Will: Eternal Life

    God's Will: Eternal Life
For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:40 When Christians talk about the will of God they are usually talking about God's plans or desires. And so we sometimes hear Christians talk about "finding God's will" (in other words, finding out what God's desires or plans are for us). There's a lot that could be said about this topic, but I would like to focus on one
  3. The Food of Jesus

    The Food of Jesus
Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work."  John 4:34  I like food. I like to eat. And honestly, I don't know many people who could say otherwise. After all, we need food to be nourished.  To live. That's what makes Jesus' words so powerful. He said that his food . . . not only what he enjoys, but what he does for nourishment and life is doing the will of his Father. Wow! More than actual food, Jesus' pleasure, nourishment, and life
  4. John 3:16

    John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16   John 3:16 is probably one of the most famous verses in the Bible. It's easy to see why. This verse tells us about God's love for the world, not just one type of people. We hear about how God is a giving God . . . a God who would give his own Son for the good of people all over the world. We see the promise that whoever believes in Jesus, God's only Son,
  5. All We Like Sheep

    All We Like Sheep
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-- every one-- to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6 Back in 2005, there were some shepherds eating breakfast outside the town of Gevas, Turkey. Just a regular day for them . . . until they saw one sheep jump off a nearby cliff to its death.   That sounds awful, doesn't it? But what happened next was really cray cray. Following the lead of the first sheep, nearly 1,500 sheep plunged off the cliff as
  6. Love Fulfills the Whole Law

    Love Fulfills the Whole Law
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  Galatians 5:14 I have to admit, I'm fascinated by this verse.   Allow me to tell you why . . . Paul, under the inspiration of the Spirit, says something radical about how the law is fulfilled. The whole law is fulfilled in one simple command. "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." But wait . . . I thought the whole law was fulfilled by two commands!  "Love your neighbor" is one of them, yes.  But
