1. Pray
    11 Apr, 2018
Pray without ceasing.  1 Thessalonians 5:17  Instead of writing something lengthy for us to ponder today, I'm encouraging all of us (me included!) to pray.   Start by using the time it would normally take you to read one of these ponderings (I don't know, maybe 3-5 minutes?) to pray. And then let's find several times today to connect with the God who gave his Son for us so that we could connect with him forever.
  2. Knowing God's Will

    Knowing God's Will
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 Talking about God's will can be tricky.   Some well-meaning people talk about knowing God's will for our lives like it's a puzzle to be solved. Others look for signs and such to give them a sense of what God wants. There are also those who act as if knowing the will of God is as simple as praying about a decision and then doing whatever you want. And then there are those who make

    Evil for Evil?
See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 When one of my children hurts another one of my children, whether it be by actions or by words, I expect the reaction from the hurt child to be an attempt to hurt the first offender.  It seems to be part of the natural way of life.  You hurt me, I hurt you back.   If I actually see one of my children respond with goodness and kindness when she or he is hurt, I'm startled
  4. Rapture or Resurrection?

    Rapture or Resurrection?
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 This post will be somewhat controversial for some readers.  I don't want to be controversial . . . but I do want to be faithful to
  5. The Dead in Christ Shall Rise

The Dead in Christ Shall Rise
For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 1 Thessalonians 4:15 Most of us want to be first. That's just the way we are. If there is something good being given out, we would rather be first in line than last in line. Yet Jesus tells us that the first shall be last and the last shall be first (Matthew 20:16).   This statement from Jesus tells us there is a huge need for
  6. The Hope of Resurrection

    The Hope of Resurrection
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.  1 Thessalonians 4:14 I've gone to a lot of funerals over the years.  I often hear things said before, during, and after those services that concern me.  I won't go into a litany of unsettling things said at funerals, but I would like to share one . . . Well, actually . . . it's more what's not said than what is said. I often hear people say something like, "Our
